Perth is my home city. I haven't always lived here but I'm happy its home now. In fact I once lived away from Perth for about 5 years whilst I was in the Army. In fact, I named this bag after my last full-time unit, the 139th Signal Squadron in Enoggera QLD.
I left Perth when I was 17 and joined the Army back in 1989. Which is kind of weird because my son Jake is now approaching that age and beginning to consider his future. Man, if I could only go back....
Anyway, the bag: It's a slightly new direction for me in terms of materials and colours but thats about it. Quality and functionality remain my overall focus.
I've used lighter and less "luxurious" materials on this bag to keep the price down but they come with some heavy duty advantages. Firstly, the main material is water proof canvas which is about 10 times lighter than leather but way more... well.. waterproof? The base is constructed using high grade upholstery vinyl to resist wear and provide some added impact protection to your gear.
You will notice that the flap is designed to create a weather seal when the bag is closed and trust me, this works like a charm. It removes the need to add a zippered closer to internal bag. And check out the internal bag! The liner is made from the recent Jack Stillman comic "Dead Gauntlet". Pretty cool huh?!
So the picture above is my son Jake. He helps me out with Jack Stillman and I pay him slave wages. But I must admit I enjoy hanging out with him and discussing business ideas - It's our bonding time. My hope is that he become entrepreneurial and not soldier...ial... This picture was taken as we were gathering shots for this look-book. I demanded he order a hot chocolate with the bag. He lacked enthusiasm... And subsequently sugar...
Needed to include this shot because I though it was a very cool idea (hanging the bottles) and it demonstrates how much the city scene in Perth is changing. We are definitely, slowly catching up to the likes of Melbourne and Sydney with our inner city style. Our city is slowly building on its company of cool small bars and stylish coffee shops.
The 139 is an ideal bag for guys or girls that want a good looking and versatile sports bag that isn't a back pack. Camera bag? Gym Bag? Hiking or touring bag? Of course, its an ideal style for bike riders as well.
More colours will soon be available so watch this space. $110 and free postage for Australian buyers.
